Downtown Hemet Community Workshop Summary

On January 19, 2006, approximately 20 Hemet residents participated in the Downtown workshop held in the Simpson Center. The second workshop took place at the City of Hemet Library on January 30, 2006 and approximately 80 people attended this meeting. The purpose of both the workshops was to:

• Provide background information regarding the General Plan update process
• Present a summary of existing conditions in the City’s Downtown area
• Identify potential outcomes for the opportunity areas in Downtown Hemet
• Provide an opportunity for public input into the General Plan process and the Downtown revitalization

The format for the events was a presentation by City staff, the City’s General Plan consultant regarding the General Plan update (P&D Consultants), with the focus of the events being the presentation from Downtown Solutions by Mark Brodeur regarding Hemet’s Downtown. Various slides were shown including three potential vision plans for the revitalization of the Downtown. For more information please visit the Events page and clik on "General Plan Workshops". GENERAL PLAN "ROAD SHOWS"

On November 19 and December 3, 2005 approximately 180 Hemet residents participated in the General Plan “Road Shows”. The Road Shows represented the first General Plan events designed to engage the Hemet community at large to define the City’s future. Interactive exhibits were used to:

1. Provide background information regarding the General Plan update process.
2. Identify potential issues of concern to residents.
3. Assess the level of interest in the General Plan update process.
4. Encourage participants to stay involved in the General Plan program.

The first Road Show session, held on November 19, 2005 at the Hemet Valley Mall where the General Plan team set up and staffed a booth with displays, and invited passing shoppers to share their thoughts and ideas about meeting Hemet’s long-range planning needs. The December 3 event, held at Gibbel Park, occurred as part of the Hemet Christmas parade and Christmas in the Park Fair.Please read the summary to learn more about the the events.
